Mattice is President & Founder of the National Economic Security Alliance (NESA), a nonpartisan IRS designated 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused at educating policymakers at the Federal, State and Local level as well as business leaders and the general public on issues affecting the economic security of America. A particular area of focus for the NESA is educating small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) about the risks and threats they face in today’s complex and high threat global economy. The U.S. Government’s Intelligence Community has stated that they are aware of over 140 countries which are actively and aggressively engaged in stealing American technology. A key element of the NESA’s mission is to educate its constituency about this advanced persistent asymmetrical threat along with the measures that can be implemented to reduce exposure to this major risk.. NESA established the William H. Webster Profiles in Leadership Awards program focused at recognizing exceptional leaders in government who play an important role in the economic security of the country. In a strategic alliance with Meharry Medical College’s Justice Initiative tying NESA’s Connected Community Project with Meharry’s Justice Initiative which is focused at addressing the issues of racial, social and criminal injustice across the America.
He is also Managing Director of Mattice & Associates LLC, a management consulting firm focused on the fields of enterprise risk management, business risk intelligence programs, resiliency, information asset protection (including intellectual property, trade secrets, brand & reputation protection & anti-counterfeiting), cyber security, compliance, corporate security, management systems, and program evaluations. Mattice established the Executive Summit Series as a unique forum where leaders share their vision of the future and tackle the front of mind issues they face today. Additionally, he is a Leadership Council member for the National Small Business Association; a Fellow at the Institute for Strategic Risk Management; Distinguished Fellow at the Ponemon Institute and an Emeritus Senior Fellow at Auburn University’s Center for Cyber and Homeland Security. Mattice has been a member of the Board of Directors for the National Intellectual Property Law Institute since 1993, where he remains as Chairman Emeritus. One of the highlights of his tenure was participating in the drafting of the National Economic Espionage Act and National Trade Secrets Act which unanimously passed by both the House and Senate in 1996. Mattice and Associates LLC is a certified small business by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Mattice has an exceptionally strong corporate track record serving over 35 years as a senior executive for three major U.S. based global corporations, (Northrop, Whirlpool and Boston Scientific) and one mid-cap company (Wescom, Inc.) all of which are in dramatically different business sectors. His corporate experience traverses the defense & intelligence, electronics, life sciences, consumer products and service industries. Mattice’s previous corporate role as Corporate Vice President at Boston Scientific included responsibility for enterprise risk management, information asset protection, anti-counterfeiting & brand protection, resiliency, cyber security, business practices violation reviews, business risk intelligence, physical & personnel security and corporate aviation.
He was appointed as one of the key industry representatives on the National Industrial Security Program Presidential Task Force, which was established through a Presidential Decision Directive by President George H.W. Bush; the task force’s members also included the Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of Energy and the Director of the CIA. Mattice was also appointed to the Inaugural Advisory Board for the National Counterintelligence Center (which is now known as the National Counterintelligence and Security Center). He was appointed by Secretary of State Warren Christopher to serve as a member of the Department of State’s Overseas Security Advisory Council, where he remains a Senior Advisor. Additionally, Mattice was asked by INTERPOL Secretary General Ronald Noble to serve for several terms on the Steering Committee for the Global Congress on Combatting Counterfeiting and Piracy, which was established as a cooperative effort by INTERPOL and the World Customs Organization.
Mattice completed three terms on the Board of Directors for the International Security Management Association, where he remains a life member, and spent several years as a member of ASIS-International’s Standards and Guidelines Commission. Additionally, he was one of the founders and charter member of the Inaugural Board of Directors for the International NGO Safety & Security Association. Mattice is a frequent speaker at major government and industry conferences. He has authored numerous articles addressing a broad range of management, leadership and enterprise risk topics, as well as being a contributing author to several books addressing enterprise risks. Mattice is board certified in risk and information systems controls (CRISC) and has been recognized as an expert witness at both the state and federal court level. He is the recipient of numerous awards and honors from both the government and private sector for his numerous contributions to the security & intelligence professions.
